Selce Power - Yes Please - Community Share Offer Branding

South East London Community Energy (Selce) is a non-profit co-operative, providing energy poverty alleviation advice and support, plus developing community-owned renewables across Greenwich, Lewisham, Bromley and Bexley in South East London.

Working for Selce as its marketing and social media officer, I was put in charge of running its 4th in solar share offer.

What is a share offer? In a nutshell, a democratic way for a community to buy the assets that they need - read more here on that.

My challenge: how to brand and present Selce’s 4th solar share offer in a way that would stand out from the many others across the UK, grab peoples’ attention and (maybe, hopefully) even persuade people to invest.

The Process

To maximise the impact of the campaign, I sought to adapt a creative idea that would already be recognisable and make sense within the context of climate and environmental campaigning.

I arrived upon the idea of adapting the anti-nuclear smiling sun logo ‘nuclear power - no thanks’, which emerged in Denmark in the ‘70s - so would also resonate with a key audience this campaign was targeting.

In discussion with the copyright holders, I received permission to use a Selce-flavoured adaption of their branding, which included the Selce logo, and a more positive spin in keeping with the message of community-owned renewables ‘Selce Power - Yes Please’.
